Enriching Medicine through Diversity.

Our Mission

The Medical Wildcard Project is dedicated to ensuring that the journey to becoming a doctor is driven by passion, perseverance, and hard work—rather than being dictated by socioeconomic status, school attended, or financial constraints.

Founded by three doctors in Australia, our mission is to inspire and support high-school students and undergraduate students from low-income backgrounds to pursue a career in medicine by providing them with the mentorship, resources, and guidance they need to succeed. In addition, we would like to support current medical students from low-income backgrounds to reach their full potential.

We endeavour to break down the barriers that prevent talented students from accessing medical school, offering financial assistance for postgraduate entry challenges like the GAMSAT and connecting university students with mentors who have walked a similar path. Likewise, we want to support current medical students stay on the path to graduate as medical doctors.

In the future we would see this program extend to support current medical doctors achieve specialisation without the financial constraints that halter success.Diversity in medicine is essential, and we believe that doctors from underserved communities bring invaluable perspectives and a deep understanding of the challenges their patients face.

By empowering these future doctors, they will be able to deliver healthcare to their own communities in need. Subsequently, this results in a more inclusive healthcare system where all individuals, regardless of their background, receive equitable and compassionate care.

Our ultimate goal is to create a level playing field for aspiring doctors, fostering a healthcare workforce that reflects the diverse communities it serves and works to reduce healthcare disparities for a better, more inclusive future for all.

Dr. Amran Dhillon’s journey into healthcare has been anything but conventional, but it has shaped him into a compassionate leader, advocate, and innovator.

With nearly two decades of experience across nursing, medicine, and advocacy, he has dedicated his career to improving healthcare access and empowering others through education and leadership.Beginning as a first aider with St. John Ambulance Australia, he pursued nursing at the Australian Catholic University before transitioning into medicine, earning his degree from Deakin University, Geelong in 2012.Now a rural GP anaesthetist and specialist anaesthetic trainee, he thrives in the challenges of rural healthcare and anaesthesia where adaptability and resourcefulness are critical.

Dr. Evan Kumar’s journey to medicine was anything but easy. Seeking refuge in Australia, his family faced countless challenges while striving for a better life. What once felt like an “insurmountable dream” became reality through perseverance, part-time work, and unwavering determination.

Now, through Medical Wildcards, he is committed to ensuring that students from low socioeconomic backgrounds have the mentorship, resources, and financial support they need to pursue a career in medicine. He believes that doctors who have faced adversity bring invaluable perspectives to healthcare—offering empathy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to bridge healthcare disparities.

His mission is to create a future where equity and opportunity in medicine are not exceptions, but the norm.

Dr. Lauren Bosley views her career in medicine as a privilege—one she is determined to make accessible to others. Passionate about bridging healthcare gaps in non-metropolitan communities, she is equally driven to address the deep inequities in medical education.

She firmly believes that a student's financial position should never determine their ability to pursue medicine.Despite graduating from James Cook University in 2024 with a perfect GPA, she once doubted whether she was "good enough" for medical school.

Working three jobs, she defied the odds—becoming the first doctor in her family and the first woman to attend university. Now, she is honored to be part of Medical Wildcard, a project designed to break barriers and ensure aspiring doctors from all backgrounds have the opportunity to succeed.

Help with the Medical Wildcard Project


- With a strong goal to launch in 2026, following the completion of our fellowship exams, we are actively seeking key stakeholders to support the establishment of the first scholarship program for medical students and aspiring medical students from low-income, disadvantaged, and marginalised backgrounds.

- We’ve already received significant interest from major corporate organisations and are continuing our search for an official financial partner to help bring this historic and landmark initiative to life for Australian students dreaming of entering and thriving in medical school.

- We’ve also secured support from local Members of Parliament in Melbourne’s outer suburbs and will soon be looking to engage further local assistance.

- Our support pathway spans three core streams: high school leavers, university students, and underprivileged medical students.

- The program will include volunteer mentors from Australian regions and schools that have only ever produced a single doctor — in fact, many of our mentors are that very first doctor from their school or area.

-The program will offer critical financial assistance for preparatory courses, entrance exams, and other essential resources.

Your support will play a monumental role in the growth and success of these future medical students and doctors.

Together, we can ensure these communities have doctors of their own and that these gifted students receive the educational opportunities they deserve.

Become a Mentor

- Provide advice and guidance to a talented young student from a disadvantaged area and background and help them achieve their dream of entering medical school

- Having your own lived experience is not essential as mentors from a wide range of backgrounds will be valuable to help these students prosper and grow
